The not-so-glamorous truth about poop
How fast it gets cleaned up matters more than almost anything. Here’s exactly how we do it.

Nobody likes to talk about poop, but in doggy daycare it matters. Poop can carry germs that make dogs sick. Tiny particles can end up on paws, toys, floors, or water bowls during normal play.
A smart routine turns a messy moment into a quick, safe non-event. Here is why we take it so seriously and how we handle poop every single time.
Poop is a health risk
Some illnesses spread through tiny traces of stool. Parvovirus can linger on surfaces. Giardia can move through small amounts of residue or water. Parasite eggs can survive in the environment.
“Good hygiene lowers the risk. Fast response, clear roles, the right disinfectant, and full dry time are the pillars of our approach.”
What clean really means in a dog space
Cleaning removes the visible mess. Disinfection targets the invisible germs that cleaning alone can miss. Both steps are essential. Order matters: first remove the bulk mess, then apply disinfectant, then wait for proper contact time and allow the area to dry.
Our above-and-beyond cleanup routine
Always-on scanning
Our counselors continuously scan the room. As soon as poop is seen, the spotter calls for help so one person contains the area while another brings tools.
Bag the solids immediately
The first person grabs the in-room poop bag and bags the solid waste right away. Removing the bulk mess sets up effective disinfection.
Roll in the poop bucket
A second team member brings the dedicated poop bucket to the playroom entrance. It stays separate from other cleaning gear to avoid cross-contamination.
Poop-only mop for residue
We use a dedicated poop mop that has been soaking in disinfectant. It comes into the room only for this task, mops any remaining residue, and goes back into the bucket.
Reset and re-disinfect the mop
The bucket returns to storage. The poop mop is disinfected again so the next use begins at clean, not almost clean.
Second pass with the spray mop
The original spotter uses a second dedicated spray mop that lives in the room to disinfect the cleaned area again. We wait until the disinfectant is fully dry before dogs go near it.
What you will see during the day
You may see us pause play in one corner, create a short no-paws zone with our bodies, or reroute a game. You will see purpose-built tools and labeled buckets that stay separate from general cleaning gear. You will not see lingering residue or dogs walking through a half-treated patch. If it is not dry, it is not done.
Why dry time matters
Disinfectants need contact time to work. Wiping them up too soon reduces effectiveness. Letting dogs run through wet solution is not ideal. We apply, wait, and reopen the space when it is dry. That is how you convert good intention into real protection.
Daily systems that keep standards high
Process only works when the habits behind it are strong. We train every team member on this sequence. Every room is stocked with the correct tools. We label and audit equipment. We sanitize and reset mops and buckets throughout the day and again at close. The next shift starts with clean equipment and full bottles. Small resets prevent slow, invisible spread.
What this means for your dog
These steps block the path that germs use to travel from poop to other dogs. The risk drops for the entire group. Puppies, seniors, and immune-sensitive dogs benefit most. Play stays fun and the environment stays safe.
How pet parents can help
Keep core vaccines current as advised by your veterinarian. Follow routine parasite prevention and deworming schedules. Tell us right away if your dog has tummy trouble at home or is not feeling well.
We have customized plans that can keep your pup safe and comfortable in our facility while maintaining safe contact from other dogs. Teamwork keeps the playrooms healthy.
The bottom line: Poop happens. What matters is what happens next. Our team treats every cleanup like a mini biosecurity mission: remove the mess, disinfect, allow contact time, confirm dry, reopen. That sequence protects the dogs in our care and keeps the fun going with serious hygiene behind the scenes.
